Israel Lacrosse is to send a delegation to a four-country cup tournament taking place in Philadelphia at the end of the month.

The tournament, called the International Lacrosse Showdown, will also feature teams representing Greece, Hungary and the Philippines.

“We’re bringing mostly our under-19 team, although it’s a men’s tournament,” Israel Lacrosse’s Scott Neiss told Haaretz on Thursday, noting that the other teams will likely have older rosters. “It’s largely made up of dual citizens who are U.S.-based,” he added.

Israel is sending U-19 head coach Seth Mahler from Israel to run the squad, which will play in the tournament opener against Greece on May 27.

Neiss also said that while the tournament itself is competitive, the purpose is to raise awareness and funds in order to benefit the local countries. Tournament organizers said they would be conducting a massive equipment drive to develop youth lacrosse in each of the four participating countries.

The tournament coincides with the NCAA Men’s Lacrosse Final Four, which is also scheduled to be held in Pennsylvania.

Israel will face Hungary and Philippines on May 29. Both the third-place game and cup final are to be held on May 30, Israel time.
