Omri Casspi’s fine preseason form continued on Friday night, as the Israeli forward scored 11 points for the Houston Rockets in a 92-73 victory over the Memphis Grizzlies. Casspi was his team’s highest scorer in a game that was effectively over after the first quarter, which ended with Houston 20 points ahead (30-10).

Casspi is “playing out of his mind,” according to the Bleacher Report, which called him “perhaps the biggest surprise of the preseason.”

“[Casspi] is cementing himself into the Rockets rotation,” columnist Jake Lapin wrote. “He is averaging 16.7 points and 7.0 boards per game, and is shooting a spectacular 76.9 percent from the field. If Casspi can continue to score at such an incredible rate, he will become a go-to guy in the second unit for the Rockets.”

The second Israeli in the NBA, Gal Mekel of the Dallas Mavericks, was give 20 minutes of court time in his team’s 98-77 preseason loss to Indiana on Friday. The 25-year-old point guard scored six points – all of them from the foul line. He also had an embarrassing turnover that he would be happy to forget.
