Ghetton’s Mundial 2013 began Thursday night in Tel Aviv with some very surprising scores, highlighted by Argentina’s 14-3 demolition of Sweden. Argentina’s Diego Mayo was the top scorer of the game with six goals.

The tournament will feature 24 different teams representing countries from all over the world, including South America, Europe and Africa, who will compete against each other every Thursday for the next 10 weeks to determine the champion.
Among the winners of last night’s early matches, Sudan was incredible in its 10-5 victory against Italy, the winner of the League, with four goals by Yohann Makai. In Group A, France U21 downed San Marino 10-2 with four goals from Dor Etedegui and three goals by Alex Assedo and Gabriel Scemama.

This year is the second time the Mundial is taking place and will feature athletes who have played soccer at Maccabiah and club levels. Last year’s winner Nigeria is not participating, but the other finalist, Israel, will be as will several other strong teams, including Ecuador, England and France.

One of the stars of last Mundial was American striker, Michael Greenberg, who plays club soccer in Israel for Kfar Yona. Another exciting player who will be debuting in this Mundial is England’s Nicky Plotnek. In addition to being the former captain for the Great Britain Maccabiah futsal team, Plotnek had an extensive professional soccer career in England playing for the Premiership’s West Bromich Albion and other top level clubs.

Mundial Under 16 saw a great derby between Turkey-Uzbekistan, with the former winning by a 5-4 margin, and a great match played by African United, which topped Italy 12-5.
