Football: Silverbacks hold off Pioneers to claim first win of the season

The Mazkeret Batya Silverbacks held off the Tel Aviv Pioneers 28-26 in a back-and-forth contest. Lior Raif rushed for 148 yards and 2 scores for the host Silverbacks, and Tamir Nudelman lead the defense with 6 tackles and an interception, plus another INT on a two-point conversion. Mazkeret Batya had a hard time corralling Pios’ wideout Shai Hillman, who had 5 catches for 111 yards and 3 scores. QB Ben Landon rushed for 112 yards and a TD for Tel Aviv, but was unable to complete a scrimmage pass to any player not named Hillman, who leads the league in receiving yards and touchdowns. 

Night cricket: Super Strikes thrash YMCB

Nightwatchmen cruised to a comfortable 87-73 victory over Yagod Morris Cricket ‘B’ on Saturday night to solidify its second place in Division 2 of the Israel Night Cricket league standings. The team now has 90 points but trails Modshem Super Strikers by 20, even though both teams hold an identical 4-1 record. YMCB is in fourth place with a 2-3 record and just 40 points. 

Netball: Jerusalem Mercaz, Kfar Etzion battle to a rare draw

Jerusalem Mercaz and Kfar Etzion fought to a rare 47-all draw in a back-and-forth battle in the Israel Netball league last Thursday. Mercaz went ahead early, going up three points by the end of the first quarter, but the lead narrowed to just one point as Jerusalem went to the halftime break with the score 25-24. Kfar Etzion then rallied to go up 36-34 before Jerusalem evened the score in the final period. The result left the two evenly-matched teams also tied in the standings in third place, behind Tel Aviv and league leader Jtown.
