For the first time in Israel baseball history, the Premier League season will run parallel to the Major League Baseball season – starting in April and running through October.
To celebrate the start of the new season, the Israel Association of Baseball (IAB) will conduct an Opening Day event at the Baptist Village on Thursday, April 10, during the school vacation for Passover. The event starts at 4 P.M. with skills competitions for the youth leagues. A similar event held during Hanukkah last year drew hundreds of visitors.
The highlight of the event will be a game between the Modi’in Miracles and the Jerusalem Lions, starting at 7:15 P.M.
“These events are becoming a staple of our baseball offering in Israel ,” says IAB National Director Nate Fish. “Our baseball program for youth is not only about teaching baseball and having them play in their leagues, it’s also about experiencing other baseball activities like the skills competition we are running, and being exposed to the senior level of play that is on offer every week at the Baptist Village by our Premier League teams.”
“As the sport of baseball continues growing in Israel we will see more activity and greater involvement of players of all ages, and this event is just one example” adds Peter Kurz, IAB president. “We’ve seen record participation this season and the professional level is significantly improving, with our expanding offering of league play, clinics and national team programs.”
