Tennis star Dudi Sela has attained a milestone in his career by chalking up his 20th title on the Association of Tennis Professionals Challenger Tour, the ATP reported on Sunday.
"Competing this week in Shenzhen, China, Sela played flawless tennis throughout the tournament. He raced through the draw without losing a set and comfortably dispatched local favorite Di Wu in the championship match, 6-4, 6-3," ATP reported regarding Sela's victory on Sunday.
"I am so happy to win my 20th Challenger title in Shenzhen," said Sela, "Winning a title here is very important because I didn't play well after the Australian Open. The performance this week can boost my confidence for the rest of the year."
In his next competition, Sela will be on his home turf, competing in the Israel Open, which is currently under way in the Tel Aviv suburb of Ra'anana and is also part of the ATP Challenger Tour.
Sela, who will be 31 next week, was born in Kiryat Shmona in northern Israel. He is currently ranked No. 84 in the ATP's rankings, and his win in China makes it certain that he will be in the main draw of the high-profile competitions this year at Roland Garros in Paris and at Wimbledon in London.
“I started the year very well and my goal was to get back into the Top 50, but then I lost five matches in a row, so your goal is always changing,” said Sela, according to the ATP. “But my main goal is still to win an ATP World Tour title. I’ve been a finalist two times before [at Beijing in 2008 and Atlanta in 2014], so I believe I can reach this one day.”
