The AFI Men’s Flag Football league rolled on this past weekend with two marquee matchups on its week 8 slate, the latter resulting in a switch at the top.

In the Max Steinberg division, title contenders Joeys Lobos faced off with the two-time defending champs, the Briut Modi’in Thundermuffins. While the games were hotly contested, the Thundermuffins came away with both victories.

In the Myra Kraft division, first place was up for grabs as the 9-1 Lev Night Sheidim hosted the 7-2-1 Camp Shalom & Hearing Solutions of LI. The promising matchup turned ugly, however, as Lev could not overcome the absence of injured star Ariel Smith. Camp Shalom won both games by a combined score of 39-0 to take over first place in the division.

In the Ezra Schwartz division, TYA defeated Chaikel Travel twice to move into second place, where the Tzionim kept ahead of the field with a combined 52-6 shellacking of the Long Island Smokers. Elsewhere, MMJ routed the Kanfei Eagles, and Imperial Car Service defeated the Killer B’s.

In other games in the Max Steinberg division, the first place Har Nof Hillbillies crushed Mercaz, DEC took two games from Big Blue Love, Our Crowd beat Yitzi’s Famous Liver, and The Whistlers split a pair of games with the Café Rimon Nachhorns.

Big Blue, Misaan women make mark

Early on in the Women’s WAFI Flag Football season, several teams have begun to make their mark on the rest of the league. Both Big Blue and the Mishaan Plumbers scored decisive shutouts this week, earning their second win in as many weeks.

However, the perennial powerhouses are not without competition – both Michdonalds and Abel’s Team moved to 2-0 as well, each winning their games by more than two touchdowns. Elsewhere, MMY earned their first win with a 14-6 triumph over the DB Devils, as did TVBaes, who crushed the MA Giants by a 32-6 tally.
