Led by a stellar pitching performance by Binyamin Mor, Bud’s Boys Modi’in defeated the Jerusalem Lions this week in Premier League play, 6-2. The 16-year-old righty showed great poise on the mound in subduing a solid Jerusalem lineup.
After a scoreless first inning, Modi’in scored 5 runs in the bottom of the second, taking advantage of several walks and a long fly ball by Noam Markose that was misplayed by Jerusalem’s left fielder. Yehuda Joffe was very effective in relief for the Lions, giving up just one run in four-and-a-third innings.
Sammy Tover led Modi’in’s offense with three hits and also displayed some slick defense at shortstop. Dima Ryabtsev saved the day for Modi’in with a running catch in left field with the bases loaded for Jerusalem.
After seven games, Ra’anana and Tel Aviv lead the league with four wins each, followed by Jerusalem with three victories and Modiin with two wins. In action next week, the league leaders will face off on Sunday and Thursday, while Jerusalem will attempt to avenge its loss in a rematch against Modi’in on Tuesday. All games are played at the Baptist Village field in Petah Tikva.
