As the Premier League of the Israel Association of Baseball enters its second month of play, Bud’s Boys Modi'in and the Tel Aviv Comrades are vying for first place, both with a 4-2 record. Ra'anana has recorded one win in five games and a “startup” Jerusalem team is still fighting to get into the win column.

In a game played on Tuesday, Tel Aviv outgunned Jerusalem 9-3 behind a strong pitching performance by Orr Gottlieb, who also helped his cause by stroking a double to deep center field. Allen Goodman blasted a triple and Herbie Epstein had two hits for Tel Aviv.

Meir Ginensky sparked Jerusalem’s offense with a double, and Nachman Siegel lined an RBI single off of Tel Aviv’s ace. Yehuda Joffe greeted Tel Aviv’s closer Yuli Tsypin with a crisp single in the last inning, but the tall righty was able to strand Joffe at second and secure the win.

Next week’s schedule: Tel Aviv and Ra'anana will meet twice, on Sunday and Thursday; while Modi'in and Jerusalem will face off on Tuesday. All games are at 7:15 P.M. at the Baptist Village in Petah Tikva.

Premier League athletes are 16 years old and up.
