Ga’ash Golf club held a Texas Scramble tournament to mark the Fourth of July on Thursday, and the winning quartet of Roz Brodie, Yerucham Shafat, Ilan Mendelsohn and Greg Elliot took first place by a net two strokes.
Ladies Club captain Marilyn Cooper and her committee initiated the tournament, which groups players into fours driving the tee box. According to the format, each team chooses the drive they want to play and all play each shot from the same spot they have chosen, until the ball is in the hole. Each player must have a minimum of four drives.
The teams consisted of three men and one woman.
On the front nine, the victors scored four birdies, four pars and a bogey. Coming home on the back nine, Brodie, Shafat, Mendelsohn and Elliot assembled four birdies and five pars to finish with a net 57.
In second place, on net 59, were Esti Noy, David Pachima, Uri Mayer and Shmulik Almagor. They played the first nine with five birdies and four pars, but two bogeys cost them on the back nine.
Nearest to the pin prizes went to Greg Elliot, on both the fourth and 18th holes.
The Texas Scramble competition came on the heels of last week’s June Monthly Medal, which Gidon Hoch took for the second month running with a gross 74. Hoch beat Ashley Silber by two shots.
Lionel Philips had the best net score in the A division with a 71, followed by Silber on net 72. David Amir won the B division with a net 70, followed by Gon Hertzog on 71. The C division was won by Meyer Iny on net 75, followed by Hadassah Alon on 78.
Nearest to the pin prizes went to Dani Seker and Ilan Cohen.
