Russian Member of Parliament Vasily Tarasyuk drowned in the Dead Sea on Saturday. A life guard on the scene tried to revive Tarasyuk, but a paramedic that was rushed over was forced to pronounce him dead. Russian media announced that members of Tarasyuk's party confirmed that he had died in Israel on Wednesday.

On Saturday at 8 A.M. emergency services received a report of a man who was pulled out of the water at the Dead Sea's Herod Beach.

Tarasyuk, born 1948, was a member of the far-right Liberal Democratic Party of Russia. Gazeta.ru reported that Tarasyuk was one of the party's main backers, as a close with oligarchs Vagit Alekperov and Suleyman Kerimov. For years Tarasyuk was a senior executive in Russian oil companies.
