A Palestinian minor stabbed a soldier at a West Bank settlement and was shot on Thursday, the Israeli army said.

The attack took place at the entrance gate to the Mevo Dotan settlement in the northern West Bank.

The soldier was lightly wounded in the attack and evacuated to hospital and the assailant was being treated at the scene, the army said. The assailant was in critical condition after being shot in the stomach.

The video footage recorded by the settlement's security cameras showed a Palestinian woman coming close to a group of soldiers that were getting off a bus. She stabs one of them out of frame and then chases another man into the settlement. Another person chases her and then she is shot out of frame.

According to Magen David Adom, she was injured in her stomach. Though this isn't certain it indicates that she was probably shot from the front. It was the soldier who shot her. A routine investigation of the incident began.

According to Palestinian sources, the assailant in the attack is Nof Ikab Abed al-Afar, a 16-year-old from the town of Ya'bad near Jenin.

Afar arrived at the Mevo Dotan guard post, where she approached a soldier and stabbed him. She was then shot.

Local settlers said that the she approached the gate to the settlement, carrying on even after a soldier at the post demanded that she stay away. She approached a group of soldiers near the gate and stabbed one of them, they said.

Last week, a police officer was stabbed in the neck and lightly wounded in the central Israeli city of Netanya. The assailant, a 45-year-old resident of the West Bank city of Tulkarm, was shot and wounded at the scene.

Some two weeks ago, a Jordanian citizen stabbed a policeman at Jerusalem's Old City. The policeman was moderately wounded and the assailant, who entered Israel as a tourist, was shot and killed.
