The police detained Friday a Palestinian who had stolen a vehicle and had intended to carry out a truck-ramming attack on soldiers, a statement from the Israel Police announced.

The suspect, a 39-year-old resident of Ramallah, had been the target of a manhunt after the truck had been reported Thursday in Holon. Police officers spotted the vehicle travelling towards Rishon Letzion nearby Beit Dagan on Friday, the statement continued.

After being ordered to stop the vehicle, the Palestinian attempted to flee, striking both a private car and a police cruiser in the process. He was shortly thereafter apprehended.

The police reported that the suspect admitted when interrogated that he had intended to carry out a truck-ramming attack on Israeli soldiers in the center of the country. Friday afternoon, the Petah Tikva Magistrate's Court extended his attention by six days.
