A statement published by Lieberman's office said they spoke about talks between the Syrian regime and rebel groups, under Russian mediation, held in Astana, in an attempt to reach a ceasefire agreement.
They also discussed ways of renewing peace negotiations between Israel and the Palestinians, the statement added.
Lieberman and Lavrov agreed to meet and continue their conversation at the Munich Security Conference later this month.
