American satirist Jon Stewart has mocked Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for "misleading" the United Nations about Iran's progress in developing nuclear weapons.

On Tuesday night’s "The Daily Show," Stewart drew attention to the perceived gap between Netanyahu's 2012 claim before the United Nations General Assembly that Iran was months away from developing a nuclear bomb, and the recently leaked intelligence cables in which Mossad officials stated – just a month after Netanyahu's UN speech – that “Iran at this stage is not performing the activity necessary to produce weapons.”

Stewart quipped: “At a certain point, I think we should think about getting him a tutor [...] Are you implying that the cartoon bomb drawing may be inaccurate?” Netanyahu famously held up a drawing of a bomb to accentuate his warning during the 2012 speech.

“We might all be just a little better off if the exaggerations about covering a war get less attention than the exaggerations that get us into so many of them,” Stewart lamented.
