Train services on the Jerusalem-Ben-Gurion Airport line were suspended Wednesday until further notice, following an electrical malfunction in the engine.

The malfunction is the latest in a series of breakdowns which have plagued the line since it opened amid much fanfare in September.

Israel Railways said in a statement that no passengers were involved and that the malfunction requires putting a stop to the train service.

The Jerusalem train was supposed to offer a direct route to Tel Aviv, but completion of the line was postponed to year’s end at the earliest. Until then, Ben-Gurion is the only stop. Passengers who want to go further have to change trains.

However, delays, cancellations and overcrowding have become an almost daily occurrence for passengers on the beleaguered line.
