Nechama Rivlin underwent a lung transplant at the Beilinson Hospital in Petah Tikva on Monday, her husband President Reuven Rivlin announced on Twitter. She is unconscious but in stable condition, the president tweeted.
The president revealed on Twitter that his wife needed the lung transplant after developing pulmonary fibrosis in recent years, and had awaited the transplant tissue for a long time. The operation was performed by cardio-thoracic surgeon Prof. Dan Aravot, head of the cardio-thoracic department at Beilinson. Nechama Rivlin’s personal pulmonologist, Prof. Mordechai Kramer, was also present, the president wrote.
Upon hearing the news, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said that on behalf of all Israelis, he wishes Nechama Rivlin good health and a long life.
