"The Israeli genius and the Jewish mind found a solution to the terror tunnel problem" said Israel's Coordinator of Government Activities in the Territories, Major General Yoav (Poly) Mordechai on Sunday on the Arabic TV station al-Hara a day after Israel destroyed a Hamas tunnel on the Gaza border.
"I want to send a message to all those who dig the tunnels or get close to them, just as you have seen over the past two months, there is nothing in these tunnels other than deathmillions are wasted [on the tunnels], rather than in the fields of health and education," said Mordechai.
Mordechai also related to the location of the tunnel, noting that it was on the border between Israel and Egypt, saying that he was "surprised" by the message the tunnel communicated to Egypt, in light of the country's role in the Palestinian reconciliation process.
"The question is how can we help the two million Palestinians living in Gaza, who live under occupation, and not Israel's occupation. Hamas is the occupier of the Palestinian people," added Mordechai.
On Saturday, the Israeli army attacked what the military described as "terror targets" along the border with Gaza. In a statement released, the IDF said that it views Hamas as responsible for what happens in Gaza. Since the end of October, three tunnels have been reportedly identified and destroyed by the IDF.
