One Palestinians was killed and another was wounded by Israeli tank fire early Thursday morning as they attempted to penetrate the Gaza Strip fence. One of the wounded was taken to the hospital in a serious condition.
According to the Gaza Health Ministry, 17-year-old Mohammed Abu Azum, was killed after he received head wounds from an explosion near Rafah.
“During the night, an IDF force identified two terrorists who were crawling toward the security fence in an attempt to infiltrate the southern Gaza Strip. The force responded by firing a tank at the terrorists and thwarting the infiltration attempt. Molotov cocktails were identified at the site,” the Israel Defense Forces said in a statement.
This incident followed a day of continued escalations in the Gaza Strip, as rockets were fired from Gaza into Israel. Earlier Wednesday, all the militant Palestinian factions in Gaza claimed credit for the rocket fire.
The Israeli military confirmed 12 rocket launches toward Israel from Gaza Wednesday night, adding that three projectiles were intercepted by the Iron Dome missile defense system.
In retaliation, the IDF spokesperson said the army targeted two Hamas positions in Gaza using both aircraft and tank fire, adding that a fighter jet also struck a car in the Nuseirat refugee camp in the Gaza Strip.
