The Israeli army's chief of staff, Lt. Gen. Gadi Eisenkot, will be hospitalized in the coming days to undergo an unknown medical procedure, the IDF said.

While he is in hospital, deputy chief-of-staff Maj. Gen. Yair Golan will take over.

Eisenkot is expected back shortly after the procedure. A military official said Monday that Eisenkot is functioning normally and that his health doesn't affect his schedule or performance.
