In the third consecutive day of blazes across the country, nearly 9,000 dunams (2,224 acres) were burned in Israel’s biggest natural disaster, geographically, since the Carmel fire of 2010.
Tens of thousands were told to evacuate immediately as fires raged throughout the country. The security establishment increasingly believes that several of the wildfires may have been politically motivated cases of arson, though most of the fires were caused by extreme wind gusts and drought.
