IDF Troops Kill Palestinian Apparently Planning to Stab Them

Soldiers open fire at Mohammed Drajma, 21, refuses their orders to stop as he approached a West Bank checkpoint carrying a broken bottle.

Israel Defense Forces soldiers shot and killed a Palestinian man, who approached the West Bank checkpoint they were manning with a bottle in his hand.

The 21-year-old man was identified by Palestinian officials as Mohammed Drajma, of the Tubas village.

According to initial reports, the soldiers opened fire on Drajma because they suspected he was poised to stab them and refused their order to halt. Drajma was shot in the chest and leg, said a Palestinian medical worker who collected the body.

No soldiers were wounded in the incident, which occurred at the Bakot checkpoint south of Nablus.

Another Palestinian was arrested on Saturday after he attempted to stab two female soldiers near the Etzion Brigade base in the West Bank.

Border Police soldiers patrolling the area trapped him and confiscated his knife. Nobody was wounded.

On Friday, a Palestinian woman died after inhaling gas that had been fired by Israeli forces quelling a protest against Israel's West Bank barrier near the village of Bilin.

The Israeli military said troops had employed riot dispersal means against stone throwers and the circumstances of the woman's death were under investigation.

In other violence, Israeli aircraft early Sunday attacked targets in the Hamas-controlled Gaza Strip, wounding two Palestinians, medical officials in the territory said.

The Israeli military said a "Hamas terror activity center in northern Gaza and a weapons manufacturing facility in central Gaza" were hit in response to a rocket strike on Israel on Saturday.
