IDF's New Senior Echelon Set to Be Announced

Brigadier-General Aviv Kochavi will take over military intelligence, Major-General Tal Rousso will become GOC Southern Command and Brigadier-General Ya'akov Ayash will assume leadership of operational branch.

Defense Minister Ehud Barak and Israel Defense Forces Chief of Staff Gabi Ashkenazi will announce late Thursday the names of those appointed to the army's senior echelon.

Brigadier-General Aviv Kochavi will be promoted to major general, and will be appointed as chairman of military intelligence.

Major-General Tal Rousso, who currently heads the army's operational branch, will be appointed at GOC Southern Command.

Rousso will replace of Major-General Yoav Galant, who is set to take over as chief of staff in February.

Brigadier-General Ya'akov Ayash will be promoted to major general and will take over Rousso's role as head of the operational branch.

The aforementioned appointments were decided upon by Barak, Ashkenazi and Galant.
