A rocket fired at Israel on Thursday evening exploded inside the Gaza Strip, near to the border with Israel, the IDF said.

Initial reports from an IDF spokesperson suggested that the projectile had struck Israeli territory, but after searching the area authorities concluded that the rocket had fallen short.

No injuries were reported in the incident, but residents of communities near the Gaza border reported hearing an explosion after sirens warned of the incoming rocket.

No group initially took responsibility for the rocket launch.

On Sunday, the Israeli air force struck two targets affiliated with Hamas in Gaza Strip after a rocket was fired from Gaza at Israel.

The projectile exploded in an open field resulting in no casualties or damage.
