Firefighters, Planes Rush to Extinguish Forest Fire in Northern Israel

Vacationers hiking in the area were evacuated from the area and several roads were closed off. No injuries were reported.

Firefighters aided by six aircrafts rushed to put out a forest fire at Biriya Forest, near Safed Monday. The fire has been contained.

Vacationers hiking in the area were evacuated from the area and several roads were closed off. No injuries were reported.

Eli Happutah, a forest ranger with the Jewish National Fund, said that the initial assessment is that the fire has spread over dozens of kilometers. Iftach Harhol, of the JNF's northern district said "We called in forces from the entire northern district in order to assist in extinguishing the blaze. Biriya Forest is one of the most hiked and beautiful forests in Israel, and we are working energetically to save it."

On Sunday evening, a brushfire broke out in Sde Teman, in southern Israel. Fire broke out at several sites but in no stage did the fire pose a risk to populated areas. According to the fire department hundreds of kilometers burned. By nightfall the entire fire was put out.
