In the last week of the craziest year we’ve known, Israel has been hurled into a tailspin that will probably outdo everything before: another election campaign, a steep rise in coronavirus infection rates, an accelerated vaccination effort and a general lockdown that starts Sunday. But anyone who takes pride in Israel’s high ranking in the number of vaccinated people per capita (first or second, depending on the day) has to acknowledge that their country is also the first to impose a third lockdown.
