Singer Hovi Star has been selected to represent Israel at the Eurovision Song Contest in Stockholm in May. Star captured the prize after winning the pre-Eurovision Song Contest competition last night, broadcast on Channel 2.

Star  will perform “Made of Stars,” words and music by Doron Medalie. This is the second time that a Medalie song has reached the Eurovision. Last year, his song “Golden Boy” was performed by Nadav Guedj, taking ninth place.

Before the win, the semifinalists performed songs they had chosen  themselves. Nofar Salman sang “Melodie,” by Eden Ben-Zaken, Hovi Star sang “Stay With Me,” Ella Daniel sang “Happy” by Pharell Williams and Gil Hadash, “The Show Must Go On” (Queen).

Another Israeli, Amir Haddad, will be appearing in Eurovision 2016  – be representing France. Haddad, who was born in France and came to live in Israel at the age of 8, is known to Israelis from his performance in the fourth season of Israel’s version of “A Star is Born.”

French audiences got to know him after he placed third in “The Voice France.” Last week it was reported that he would be singing “J’ai cherche” (“I Searched”), which was distributed by Warner Music France and became a hit on local radio.
