Two of the three films in the Foreign Documentary category at the 2016 Student Academy Awards are Israeli: Maya Sarfaty’s “The Most Beautiful Woman” and Tamar Kay’s “The Mute’s House.”

Sarfaty studies at the Steve Tisch School of Film and Television at Tel Aviv University, while Kay is at the Sam Spiegel Film School in Jerusalem.

Sarfaty’s movie recounts the story of Helena Citronova, who had an affair with an SS officer while captive in Auschwitz; Kay’s film follows a deaf Palestinian mother and her son in Hebron.

The winner will be announced on September 22.
