'Mama, I Fell in Love With a Jew': Behind Palestinian Rap Group's Newest Song
Tamer Nafar and Mahmood Jrere of Palestinian rap group DAM want to inject some humor into politics of coexistence between Jews and Arabs in Israel
Talking about their latest music video "Mama, I fell in love with a Jew," Tamer Nafar and Mahmood Jrere of Palestinian rap group DAM say they want to inject some humor into notions of coexistence between Jews and Arabs in Israel. The song is about a Palestinian and an Israeli soldier who meet in an elevator. "She was going up and I was going down," the lyrics relate.
DAM member and rapper Tamer Nafar made headlines when Culture Minister Miri Regev walked out of Nafar's performance during the Ophir Awards, later seeking to shut down his concert on allegations that Nafar's lyrics have legitimized terrorism. He recently starred in "Junction 48," a film about two young lovers and musicians in the Israeli Arab city of Lod that has won critical acclaim and was recently acquired by Netflix.
