Ellen's Star-studded Oscar Selfie Is Most Retweeted Tweet Ever

Oscar host DeGeneres tweeted a selfie with a gaggle of A-list stars and surpassed the previous record-holder - President Barack Obama.

Television icon Ellen DeGeneres not only nailed it as second-time Oscar host Sunday night, she also broke Twitter records with the most retweeted tweet - ever.

DeGeneres tweeted a selfie with a gaggle of her fellow A-list stars who were in the audience at the Academy Awards ceremony. Meryl Streep, Jennifer Lawrence, Julia Roberts, Brad Pitt, Angelina Jolie and Kevin Spacey are in the shot. Bradley Cooper, who lost out on the Best Supporting Actor award to Jared Leto, took the photo.

The tweet read,“If only Bradley’s arm was longer. Best photo ever. #oscars."

In under an hour, the star-studded selfie had 871,000 retweets and 210,000 favorites, passing the previous record-holder - no less than U.S. President Barack Obama. A photo of the president embracing his wife, Michelle, when he won the election in 2012, was retweeted 777,000 times.

At the time of writing, DeGeneres' selfie had as many as 2,402,647 retweets and 1,167,326 favorites.

DeGeneres posted other selfies that night, with Leto and ChanningTatum, but they were less popular with the Twitterverse.
