Photographers from The New York Times and Thomson Reuters won the prize for their gripping photographs of the journeys taken by refugees fleeing war and horror in the Middle East and Northern Africa, in their attempts to start new lives in Europe. Even after crossing the sea, crawling under barbed wire fences and wallowing in the mud, the camera captures their continued resolve to reach their unknown destinations.
