Matisyahu was once globally known as a Hasidic reggae superstar, but in 2011, he confirmed that he was no longer a follower of Hasidism and had shaved his beard. Last year, in an interview with Haaretz, he made it clear that he was still deeply tied to Judaism and some elements of Jewish practice. He also published a very personal essay on drug use that began when he was 14 years old, on his loneliness and eventual journey through Hasidic life.
In other concert news, it has been announced that the former vocalist of the group Bauhaus, Peter Murphy, will perform at the Haoman 17 in Tel Aviv on October 31.
