Bono's Surprise Visit to Israel
U2 frontman dines in Jaffa port restaurant; has no current plans to perform in Israel.
U2's frontman Bono surprised passers-by in Jaffa's port on Monday after dining in a Tel Aviv restaurant.
The owner of the Container, Vince Muster, confirmed that Bono - also known as Paul David Hewson - visited the venue, adding that no one knew about his visit in advance.
The Israeli band "I was a Bastard" performed at the restaurant, and upon spotting Bono they tried to convince him to come on stage and sing with them – to no avail.
Bono is apparently in Israel on a private visit, and does not intend to hold a performance. U2's last show in Israel was in 1997. Kadima MK Tzipi Livni invited Bono to Israel in the past, but he refused.
Bono's visit may have to do with the company Dropbox, in which he invested funds with his friend and U2 guitarist The Edge. Others assume Bono may be participating in an international peace conference.
