Three caregivers and a nurse, in their 40s and 50s, have been arrested on suspicion of abusing a 91-year-old woman in the Neot Yam senior citizens’ home in Kiryat Yam, near Haifa. The four face extended detention in the Krayot Magistrate’s Court.

The women were arrested after a video aired on Channel 10 Monday showed the nonagenarian being hit and cursed by staff members. The film revealed other instances of verbal and physical violence toward the woman. These include a worker shouting, “Die already with this wetness” when she asked to have her diaper changed, a caregiver scolding her and calling her a “mental case,” and a caregiver forcing her to sit on a chair while she was crying in pain.
The Neot Yam home commented: “Immediately after the incident was revealed a complaint was filed with the police and it was reported to the Health Ministry. The workers were called for a hearing and suspended immediately and won’t return. We will show no tolerance for any kind of cruelty.”
Israel Police said it was “investing maximum resources” in the case.
