Businessman Yehuda (Yuli ) Ofer passed away last night at home. Ofer, 87, came to Israel with his parents and elder brother Sammy from Romania when he was six months old and grew up in Haifa. He served in the infantry in the IDF, reaching the rank of major.
Ofer, one of the richest people in Israel, managed the family's businesses in Israel, including in real estate, media, aviation, banking, shipping and other investments. The family owned a number of well-known companies such as Ofer Shipping, Melisron, Granite Carmel, Ofer Brothers Holdings, the Israel Corporation, Israel Chemicals, the Zim shipping company and was a part owner of Mizrahi-Tefahot Bank.
Ofer is survived by his wife Ruth, daughter Leora and son Doron, as well as grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Sammy Ofer died in February.
