Coffee chain Aroma Israel halted sales of two iced drinks due to fears of listeria contamination. This is the latest of a string of incidents of contaminated food to be recalled by major Israeli food companies. It does not affect Aroma branches in Tel Aviv, which are operated by a separate company.

The chain halted sales of its Vegan Ice coconut-lychee frozen drink and its coconut-lychee milkshake Sunday night after concerns of listeria contamination arose regarding one batch. The company has recalled the product and informed the Health Ministry, but did not issue an announcement to consumers.

A Health Ministry inspection team sent to Aroma Israel’s plant in the Ella Valley yesterday took samples for laboratory tests and ordered the company to sterilize its production lines.

Twelve Israeli companies have issued food recalls in August alone. They include Unilever’s Telma, after salmonella was found in some breakfast cereals, Salatei Shamir and Baracke halvah.
