A number of United Airlines flights to and from Israel have been plagued by disruptions and cancellations over the past month, passengers have reported.

The airline, which serves Ben-Gurion International Airport from its Newark hub in the New York area, said in the response that it apologizes for any inconvenience caused to members of the public and is taking steps to improve adherence to its flight schedule.

One regular United customer recounted that about a week ago, he arrived at Newark airport for his flight to Israel and was told by an airline service representative that he was lucky that his flight was not cancelled, as the flight the day before had been cancelled and there had been disruptions to the airline’s flights to Israel over the entire past month. The passenger said he contacted the airline to find out what was causing the problems and was told that due to a shortage of aircrafts, flights have been cancelled, but the airline was hoping to take possession of new planes from Boeing.

On Thursday, United flight 90 from Newark to Tel Aviv and return flight as well were cancelled. On Sunday, United flight 85 from Tel Aviv to Newark was delayed by three hours.

Between January and May of this year, about 147,000 passengers flew to or from Israel on the United Tel Aviv-Newark route, a 2.5% decline over the period last year, but still ranking the carrier the fifth largest at Ben-Gurion Airport based on passenger volume.
