The seemingly easy, luxurious life of start-up entrepreneurs appeals to many Israelis who fantasize about landing an exit and then being set for life. A reality show with a similar name – "Mesudarim" ("Set") – is largely responsible for promoting that image of the good life. Yet the road to start-up stardom is a bumpy one, paved with many potholes.

Those difficulties – the uncertainty and whirlwind changes that precede an exit – are at the heart of a new documentary series set to hit the small screen on the Yes Cable Network at the end of February (see video in Hebrew).
The show, called “Silicon Wadi,” will premiere on February 27 and will also be available via on-demand services (VOD). The series follows four startups that deal with coupons, online trading and social networking starting at the embryonic stage. It focuses on the difficulties in raising investor money, disagreements between founding partners and the struggle to survive without bringing in any revenue.
Daniel Sivan and Yossi Bloch, the makers of the new four-part series, follow developer Yossi Tagouri and Fiddme, a social network application focused on restaurants; Efrat Roman and CureDiva, a social e-commerce destination devoted to women coping with breast cancer; the Shop Rooster coupon application; and a social network called Sleeve that would allow conscientious college students to make money from their note-taking skills.
