The Jerusalem Symphony Orchestra, currently on tour in South America, was met with protests organized by the Boycott Divestment and Sanctions Movement and Palestinian activists in Santiago, the capital of Chile.

Protests were also held in the capital of Peru, Lima, but the most severe incident was in Santiago, where a poster was distributed depicting the conductor, Yeruham Scharovsky, with his chest and hands stained with blood. The poster was interpreted as a call to murder him and as a result, Scharovsky was put under personal security.

Yeruham Scharovsky was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina and migrated to Israel in the 1970s.

The orchestra was also met with demonstrations outside concert halls in Buenos Aires and Tucuman in Argentina. Nevertheless, both concerts were held without interruption and the venues were full. Concerts were protested in Brazil, too, and the Sao Paulo performance was held under heavy security.

None of the protests appeared on BDS' official website.
