A 1-year-old girl was killed on Monday after she was run over by a car in a hit-and-run in southern Israel.

Police said they have found the car that hit the child, but the identity of the driver has yet been determined.

"When I arrived on the scene of the accident I saw a man holding an unconscious infant with a head wound," senior paramedic Yaser Abu Ragila said.

The infant sustained critical wounds in the incident in Segev Shalom, near Be'er Sheva, and died on the way to the hospital.
