A fire engulfed the top 10 floors of a Ramat Gan residential tower near the Ayalon Highway.

Police said there were no injuries but the blaze at Bialik Street led to traffic lanes being shut on the Ayalon, choking off a main Tel Aviv thoroughfare and exacerbating afternoon traffic jams.

Many Magen David Adom ambulances and paramedics were at the scene.

"When we received the call about the fire, we feared people may be trapped in the building," MDA paramedic Ilan Mualem.

"In coordination with the fire department and police, we deployed forces around the building and prepared to treat any injuries," he added.

So far none of the residents evacuated from the building have required any medical treatment, Mualem said.
