The killing of Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar amounts to a real achievement in the eyes of Israel, which sees taking out the man responsible for the October 7 attack as having settled the score. But history teaches that the assassination of leaders in an organization like Hamas does not cause its collapse – or substantive change in its ideology or conduct.
