Police Shoot Armed Man in Northern Israel, Seriously Wounding Him

Police say the man was found shooting at a home in the Arab town of Jisr al-Zarqa, and aimed his gun at officers, who opened fire on him

Police shot a 30-year-old man in Jisr al-Zarqa overnight Saturday who is suspected of shooting at a home in the town.

According to the police, officers heard gunshots and arrived at the scene, where they found the suspect shooting at a house. The suspect then aimed his weapon at the forces, police said, who opened fire on him. At the scene, officers found an improvised submachine gun, known colloquially as a "Carlo."

The man was evacuated in serious condition to Hillel Yaffeh Medical Center in Hadera, where he was anesthetized and put on a ventilator.

In a separate incident overnight Saturday, a 25-year-old man was moderately wounded and three others mildly wounded in an altercation in the village of Samir, near Haifa.

The Magen David Adom rescue service evacuated the moderately wounded man, who bore stab wounds, to Rambam Hospital.
