The Israel Police on Monday indicted a settler who hurled stones at left-wing protesters in the West Bank, injuring two.

Shalom Zicherman, 31, resident of illegal settler outpost Mitzpe Yair, was filmed violently attacking the left-wing activists in South Hebron Hills earlier this month. The activists had been on their way to a demonstration against the eviction of some 1,000 Palestinians from the Masafer Yatta region in the West Bank.

According to the indictment, another settler blocked the car before Zicherman cornered them from the other side and attacked them. Two passengers were injured in the assault.

Zicherman was indicted on charges of assault, armed assault, and intentional damage to a vehicle. Police have requested that he be detained until the end of legal proceedings.

On the day of the attack, Public Security Minister Omer Bar-Lev said, "As far as I'm concerned, there's no difference between them and Palestinian terrorists hurling stones to kill Jews."

Masafer Yatta, near Hebron, was declared a military firing zone in 1981. In May, Israel's High Court of Justice ruled that the state could expel the residents so that the military can hold training exercises there.
