The Palestinian Health Ministry said that Adwan was formerly incarcerated.

Palestinian activists in Azzun said that Adwan has been arrested several times since 2010 for activities threatening the state's security, including once in 2019 and once more last year, and racked up seven-and-a-half years in prison.
