Iran's Revolutionary Guard said on Tuesday that two of its members were killed in a strike this week near Damascus, which Syria accused Israel for.

In a brief statement published by the IRNA news agency, the elite Iranian force "congratulated" the two officers for their "martyrdom," and vowed to "make the Zionist regime pay for this crime."

Syrian state media said that two people were killed in the Israeli strike on Monday night, in the first attack attributed to Israel in Syria since the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

Israeli Air Force planes reportedly emerged from the direction of Beirut and Syria's air defense systems were activated in response. It was also reported that the struck targets were damaged and that echoes of explosions were heard in the capital's skies.

A few days after the invasion, the Russian embassy in Israel announced that military coordination with Israel in Syria would continue and that senior Russian military officials would discuss it on a daily basis. "This mechanism has been proven to be effective and will continue to work," the Russian embassy said.

The IDF revealed on Sunday, that Iran attempted to send drones carrying firearms to Gaza and the West Bank last year.

The Iranian drones were intercepted before entering Israeli airspace "in coordination with neighboring countries," and were monitored throughout their flight. They were intercepted by two F-35 aircraft.

In recent years drones have been used as a means of friction between Israel and Iran, in Israeli attempts to infiltrate Iranian aircraft and by Iranian affiliates in the region, led by Hezbollah.
