Settlers attacked Border Police officers on Monday near a West Bank settlement while police attempted to remove a tent placed in a closed military zone.

One officer was lightly injured and three Border Police vehicles were damaged in the incident in Yitzhar.

“At the end of the operation, when the forces left the area, rioters threw rocks and bottles of paint at the forces,” said a statement from police.

“As part of the riot, a rock was thrown at a Border Police patrol car, and it shattered the car’s window. As a result, a Border Police fighter was mildly wounded by glass shards. When the forces left they found iron bars meant to harm the force’s vehicles, and the fighters responded with means to disperse demonstrations.”

IDF chief of staff Aviv Kochavi condemned the "criminal behavior" while promising to bring the perpetrators to justice.

Clashes between settlers and Palestinians, and sometimes between settlers and security forces, have occurred frequently in the Yitzhar area. In July, a settler and a masked man were filmed shooting at Palestinians in the West Bank, with soldiers next to them.

A few days earlier, commanders and soldiers said the security coordinator of Yitzhar shot a Palestinian who posed no risk in the presence of soldiers. Last November, a resident of the Kumi Ori outpost near Yitzhar hit a Border Police officer with his car, lightly wounding him.
