According to the Israel Defense Forces, the assailant, who was armed with knives, entered Israeli territory from the southern Gaza Strip and entered the Eshkol Regional Council.

The council said earlier that evening that a suspicious man was reported in the area. Residents were instructed to remain in their homes and security guards were called to the scene.

One of them began to question the suspect, who pulled out a knife and stabbed the guard, who was lightly injured. The guard then shot the assailant in the torso and lower body. Both the victim and the assailant were taken to Soroka Medical Center in Be'er Sheva for treatment.

The assailant was found near the community of Sdei Avraham, a few kilometers from the Gaza border

The Israel Police and the Shin Bet are investigating the incident, and suspect that the attempted murder may have been a terror attack.

The investigation of the incident is ongoing.
