Israel and Cyprus are expected to announce an agreement to mutually recognize each other's COVID-19 vaccination certificates, with the intention of renewing tourism between the two nations.

Cypriot President Nicos Anastasiades is slated to land in Israel Sunday morning; the announcement is expected during his visit.

Cyprus is also expected to announce that Israeli tourists will be exempted from quarantine beginning March 1, assuming that flights between the two countries have resumed and Israel is not classified as a "red' country, with a high rate of infection.

Anastasiades will be accompanied by Defense Minister Charalambos Petrides, Foreign Minister Nikos Christodoulides, and Energy Minister Natasa Pilides; each minister will meet with their Israeli counterpart. Anastasiades will begin his visit with a meeting with President Reuven Rivlin, and he will meet with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in the evening.

Last week, Israel and Greece announced their intention to sign a similar agreement during the visit of Greek President Kriakos Mitsotakis. Israel is negotiating similar agreements with Estonia and the Seychelles.
