A male-led video raising awareness of sexual assault in Israeli society has gone viral in the wake of an alleged gang rape of a 16-year-old girl in the southern resort city of Eilat.

The social media campaign features 15 Israeli media figures using the Hebrew hashtag “It’s_My_Problem” aiming to raise awareness of sexual violence and urging men to take responsibility for the issue. “Violence against women is not a women’s problem, it’s my problem,” the men say.

The video calls on men to consider how the aggressive language they use when speaking to women or about women contributes to widespread sexual assault. “She’s just playing hard to get,” “why not buy her another shot,” “there’s no such thing as a woman who doesn’t give, just a man who doesn’t take” the men list as examples.

“Now imagine how it feels for the other side” the video goes on to suggest.

The video includes activist and spoken word artist Yossi Tabari, singer Hemi Rodner and actor Yossi Marshek and was created at the initiative of entrepreneur Mordechai Braunstein.

The State Prosecutor’s Office said last week that it was set to file 11 indictments in the alleged rape of a 16-year-old girl in the Red Sea Hotel in Eilat last month.

Four will be charged with rape, and the rest with indecent acts, failure to prevent a crime and abetting sexual intercourse. The indictments will be filed against three adults and eight minors. At this stage, it was decided not to indict the hotel manager, and a decision regarding her will be made later.

The case has sparked nation-wide protests against sexual violence and has prompted calls to address rape culture in Israeli society.
